KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has tasked a high-level team to probe the Friday’s deadly armed assault on ceremony marking death anniversary of Abdul Ali Mazari.
Based on the Presidential Decree, Abdul Fattah Azizi, deputy prosecutor general, Mohammad Hamid Tahmasi, military inspector general, Fida Mohammad Ulfat, chairman of the parliamentary commission on national security, Naeem Nazari, deputy director of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, the National Directorate of Security representative, Azizullah Atal, head of the Interior Ministry's department of counter-terrorism, would be on the committee.
The organizer of Mazari’s death anniversary ceremony would also be on the committee.
The President has said that the committee is required to carefully and comprehensively review the circumstances leading to the deadly assault, and present its report within two weeks.
It is worth noting that the 25th death anniversary, the former leader of the Islamic Unity Party, which took place in Kabul on Friday, was the target of an armed attack that left over 30 people killed and many more wounded.
