KABUL (SW) – The health ministry on Friday confirmed at least 27 person got killed and 55 others got wounded in armed assault on a ceremony marking death anniversary of Abdul Ali Mazari.
Nusrat Rahimi, interior ministry spokesman, said all high-ranking officials and figures were safely evacuated from site of the attack. He said in a statement that the armed attackers used an under-construction facility to launch this attack.
Waheedullah Mayar, health ministry spokesman, confirmed later that 27 people got killed and 55 others got injured.
Among those wounded include Masooma Muradi, former governor of Daikundi province, eye-witnesses said.
Key figures including Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman High Peace Council, Mohammad Karim Khalili, former foreign minister Salahuddini Rabbani and others were present at the venue when gunfire erupted.
Condemning the attack, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani dubbed it as ‘inhuman attack on national unity’. He telephoned Abdullah and Khalili and inquired about their well-being.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
The Taliban rejected any involvement.
