SAMANGAN (SW) – Hundreds of displaced families in Samangan province continue to long for aid and support weeks after land sliding forced them to flee their homes.
The close to 100 displaced families from the Suf Balla district of Samangan province said they have not received any assistance so far.
Husain Ali and and Abdul Hakim, two representatives of the displaced families in the district who came to the Samangan Provincial Council, said the displaced people are living without shelter or water under harsh conditions. They accused the local government of inadequate assistance to the displaced and demand government assistance.
According to them, about 200 other families in the district are facing the threat of land-sliding.
Samangan Provincial Council Chief Raz Mohammad Raz warned that a major humanitarian catastrophe will occur in the district if food is not provided to displaced persons soon.
But, Sebgatullah Saic, chief of the Samangan province's natural disaster response department, said they were unable to send food to the district because of road safety and security threats. He said they are trying to help the IDPs with cash support.
As per official figures, 6 residential homes, a mosque and a school have been destroyed as a result of the land-sliding in the district.
