KABUL (SW) – The defense ministry has discarded the Taliban’s claims of shooting down at least 23 military air crafts during the year 2019.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Fawad Aman, told Salam Watandar that these claims by the insurgents are ‘baseless’. He added the Taliban are under immense pressure particularly since the last ten months, and is losing areas under control. He added the Taliban have caused heavy civilian casualties in their insurgent attacks.

Earlier, the Taliban issued a statement claiming to have killed thousands of Afghan and at least 363 foreign soldiers besides wounding thousands of more. The group said in a statement that they have shot down 23 military air crafts including 9 helicopters, one jet plane and 13 drones.

According to the Taliban, they carried out more than 1200 attacks, including 32 suicide assaults in the year 2019.

This comes as the Taliban are engaged in talks for peace with the U.S. in the Qatari capital, Doha with no significant headway.
