KABUL (SW) – The election commission officials on Friday lashed out at the presidential candidates for promoting fraud in the polls amid persistent delays in announcement of the results.
The Independent Election Complaint Commission on Friday organized a consultative meeting to overcome the impasse. Aurang Zeb, a commissioner, later told the presser that the election commission has identified some 13,000 of its workers allegedly involved in rigging.
He added the findings indicate that the candidates actually prompted these workers to engage in the fraud in the first place.
The IECC head, Zuhra Bayan Shinwari, expressed concerns over delay in the announcement of the results. She stressed the election commission should swiftly overcome the issues, and come up with a result.
On her term, the IEC head, Hava Alam Nuristani, said the electoral commission has so far declared up to 700,000 votes as null and void. She urged the agitating presidential candidates to allow the recount in the remaining seven provinces.
