MAIMANA (SW) – At least half strength of the security forces in Faryab’s Qaisaar district comprises of ghost soldiers who only exist on payrolls.
According to the provincial council members, there is a strength of around 600 security forces registered in the district, but only around 300 are actually appearing for duty while the rest withdraw salaries without showing up for duty.
Mohammad Nader Saeedi, a PC member said, that for instance, there are some 205 policemen registered in the district, but only 50 are practically present. A well-placed security source that wished not to be named in the report told Salam Watandar that same is the situation with other forces in the district. The source said the ghost soldiers registered on the payrolls are busy in other jobs and business in the province.
However, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, Abdul Kareem Yourish, discarded these reports. He said the issuing of salaries is now based on terms that made it impossible for someone to withdraw the money without showing up for duty.
