SHEBERGHAN (SW) – At least 100 families have been forced by the Taliban to flee their homes in the Mardeyan district of Jawzjan province.
Shamsuddin Shahab, the district governor, told Salam Watandar the locals have been forced to flee by the Taliban in a bid to use their homes as trenches in fight against the security forces. He said the displaced families have been forced to live in miserable conditions on the outskirts of the district.
A number of such internally displaced persons who managed to reach Aqcha district of the province spoke about lack of resources amid harsh winter making children unwell.
The provincial police chief, Abdul Wahid Wajdan, has confirmed the displacement of dozens of families. This is not the first time when such forced displacement is taking place.
Prior to this, the Taliban forced at least 60 families from Mardeyan to flee on charge of extending support to the security forces.
The Taliban have not commented on it.
