HERAT CITY (SW) – The provincial governor’s spokesman in Herat has said deadly clashes between two factions of the Taliban killed at least 40 people on both sides here.
Jailani Farhad said a breakaway faction of the Taliban led by Mulla Manan Niazi engaged in deadly clashed with the main faction led by Mulla Hebatullah in the Guzara district.
A member of the provincial council Wakeel Ahmad said that 32 fighters of the Mullah Manan Niazi faction while eight fighters of Mulla Hebatullah got killed in exchange of fire here.
However, the Taliban claimed to have killed over 30 ‘pro-government militia fighters’ in the restive Guzara district after overrunning a security base camp.
