HERAT CITY (SW) – More than 100 members of the local uprising force in Ghor have been killed by the Taliban in the past one month alone, the local civil society activists said on Sunday.
Members of the Ghor civil society told a press conference in this connection that the insurgents’ mounting assaults on a number of districts in the province are worrisome. They said a total of 109 members of the Afghan Local Police, Afghan National Police and civilians have lost lives in the six districts of the province.
They said only the centers of Tawlak, Saghar, Tewra, Dawlatya and Dolena districts are under the government control while rest of the province is on the mercy of the Taliban. They warned the Taliban are aiming to overrun the remaining parts of the province as well.
Spokesman for the provincial governor, Abdul Hai Khatibi, has confirmed the death toll, and the insurgents’ mounting attacks on six districts. He said a joint team of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense and the NDS is visiting the province to plan a major offensives against the insurgents.
