PUL-E-ALAM (SW) – Teachers in Logar province have warned to go on strike if the promises made to them about distribution of residential plots are not met.

Dozens of teachers in the provincial capital, Pul-e-Alam, charged the government for turning its back on pledges made in this regard. One such protesting teacher, Khalilullah, told Salam Watandar that the teachers have been serving tirelessly for ages, but their right to have home has not been respected by the government. He warned the proposed protest drive would continue until their demands are met.

Head of the teachers’ union, Lutfullah Stanikzi, said on his term that the government pledged to provide residential plots to teachers few years back, but the promises have not been materialized yet.

When contacted, Abdul Wakil, head of the Directorate of Education, told Salam Watandar that these demands by the teachers have been shared with the Ministry of Education. He vowed the distribution of residential plots would begin next week.
