MONITORING (SW) – Following Wednesday night’s eliminator, the journey of all three Afghan cricketers featuring in the Indian Premier League’s latest edition came to an end.
Though, Afghanistan’s spin sensation Rashid Khan and seasoned allrounder Mohammad Nabi failed to lead their team Sunrisers Hyderabad to the final, their individual performances impressed many.
Rashid bowled a record maiden-over with two wickets last night. In the 12-year history of the commercial Indian league, he became the first bowler to demonstrate such a performance.
Rashid had the credit of bowling a maiden over in the previous edition of IPL, but this time he complemented it with two wickets. In his four overs, he gave away only 15 runs and grabbed two key wickets of the opponent Delhi Capitals. His country mate in the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mohammad Nabi, scored a quick-fire 20 to help his team reach a decent total of 162.
The young team of Delhi Capitals managed to reach the target in a nail-biting encounter that saw the game swing in both directions throughout.
In all 15 matches he played, Rashid took a total of 17 wickets in this session. Nabi played eight matches, scored 115 runs and took eight wickets.
Afghanistan’s young Mujeeb Zadran, who played for Kings XI Punjab, played five matches and took three wickets. All three Afghans are set to fly to Scotland to take part in preparation games for the world cup.
