KABUL (SW) – CEO Abdullah Abdullah has said there is need for change in mentality towards freedom of speech and press freedom in the country.
Abdullah said this in a ceremony to mark the death anniversary of nine journalists killed in a brazen suicide attack last year. The CEO said autocratic mindset cannot be hidden and people can well judge such attitudes. He said peoples’ voice can never be silenced for long.
He directed legal institutions and the security forces to address the public need and concerns in this connection.
Addressing the moot, Attorney General Fareed Hamidi, said his office and the government in general is very keen and sensitive in regard to press freedom and freedom of speech. He said the AGO has completed its investigations in the case of physical abuse of Abdullah Khinjani, editor-in-chief of TV1.
Khinjani charged the PPS guards last week of physically abusing him.
