KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Energy and Water has announced the capacity has improved to manage water resources across the country.
Addressing the 5th National Water Conference here on Tuesday, Mohammad Gul Khilmi, minister for the MoEW, said the volume of surface water stands at 49 billion cubic meters while the underground water volume stands at 17 billion cubic meters.
He announced efforts are underway to improve water management and review ties with the neighboring countries for improvement in this connection. Minister Khilmi said better management and improved policies helped increase the total volume of water in Afghanistan from 21 billion cubic meters in the year 1381 to 26 billion cubic meters in the year 1397.
The 5th NWC was told 2100 new water supply projects have been completed that helped irrigate 700 hectors of additional land across the country.
The MoEW has aims to lift the water reserves to 29 billion cubic meters in the next four years.
