Evident surge in the Taliban attacks in Farah

FARAH CITY (SW) – There has been an evident surge in the Taliban attacks on security check posts around Farah city.

Shah Mehmood Naimi, deputy chairman of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar the Taliban have been staging deadly assaults on regular basis at check posts around Farah city. He added the presence of foreign troops had forced the Taliban to adopt a more defensive posture, but after the withdrawal of these forces, the Taliban have become more offensive.

He said more than 20 security forces have been killed in these attacks so far.

A member of the provincial council, Kher Mohammad, said in this regard that the heavy death toll inflicted by the Taliban on the security forces in worrying. He said three to six security forces are losing their lives every night due to these attacks. He claimed up to 90 per cent of the province is controlled by the Taliban.

Meanwhile, Muhibullah Muhib, spokesman for the police, confirmed the casualties sustained by the security forces in the past two days, but did not comment on the overall security in the province.

This comes after the Taliban stormed check posts on the outskirts of Farah city two days ago. It is said 13 security forces got killed and 10 more got wounded in these attacks.
