KABUL (SW) – Sibghatullah Mojaddedi, former president and head of the Afghan National Liberation Front, passed away here at the age of 93.
The late Mojaddedi’s son Zabihullah Mojaddedi issued a statement confirming his father passed away after a long illness. It was announced the funeral would be held on Wednesday in Kabul.
The spiritual political leader chaired the Loya Jirga (grand council) to approve the Constitution in 2003. He served as speaker of the Masharano Jirga (upper house) from 2005 till 2010.
He was among the pioneering leaders of the resistance movement against the invading Soviet forces, and served as president of the interim government in 1992.
