KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani joined the race for presidential elections on Sunday with pledge to complete the reforms agenda of Ghazi Amanullah Khan in the country.
Ghani was flanked by his two proposed presidential deputies, Amrullah Saleh and Sarwar Danish, and a third member, Mohammad Yosuf Ghazanfar. With the slogan of ‘State Building’, Ghani said on the occasion only a strong and committed government can earn the people’s trust. He stressed a strong state would not be person-centric, but with viable legal institutions.
Ghani said his proposed future government would be accountable to the people. He expressed readiness to pay every sacrifice for peace, but vowed not to compromise the sacrifices of the security forces. He dubbed the poor as the greatest ethnic group in Afghanistan, and vowed to end poverty. At the end of his speech, Ghani asked Afghans to take active part in the polls, and take the country out of crisis.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghani’s proposed vice president, Saleh said he joined this electoral ticket for the sake of an accountable and transparent government. He also vowed to bring order and justice. Saleh added he joined Ghani to end the manipulation of state power by certain individuals and establish a stable state.
Sarwar Danish, the second proposed vice president, said on the occasion Afghanistan is passing through a decade of tranformaion from crisis. He said the current government inherited a crisis-hit country, but achieved a lot during the past four years. He claimed these achievements in the face of grim challenges are unparalleled.
Mohammad Yosuf Ghazanfar, the proposed special envoy of the president, also expressed support for Ghani’s team.
Earlier in the day, CEO Abdullah Abdullah also filed nomination papers for the election.
