KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) is set to summon Ali Ahmad Usmani, Minister for Water and Energy, on Monday.
Irfanullah Irfan, deputy secretary of the WJ, told Salam Watandar up to 53 members of the house have submitted written requisition to summon the Minister. He added Usmani has been summoned over his ministry’s alleged failure in properly implementing developing projects, and inefficiency towards the development of Pashdan Dam in Herat, Almar Dam in Faryab and Machalgho Dam in Paktia provinces.
Meanwhile, a number of MPs are not in favor of summoning the Minister. Among them, WJ member Ghulam Faroq Majroh, stressed such an act is violation of the Constitution. He went on to say that some MPs have personal issues with some of the construction companies, and are hence bent upon directing their anger towards the Minister.
Defending the Minister, spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Power Mohammad Asif Ghafoori claimed operations are going smoothly in line with the rules of procurement. He added three irrigation projects were not satisfactory hence they have been referred back to the National Procurement Commission.
