PPS men abusing journalists be prosecuted

KABUL (SW): A number of journalists have complained that the security guards associated with the President Protective Service (PPS) disrespected, physically abused and not allowed them the coverage of an event organized by the Ministry of Higher Education.

The journalists have charged the PPS men for hindering the coverage of the event and even beating staff of a video crew that was doing its job at the event a day earlier.

Nai – Supporting Open Media, organization has condemned the incident. At a press conference today, Abdul Majeed Khilwatgar, chief executive of Nai, said the PPS guards see themselves above all laws and regulations. He said those involved in yesterday’s event shall be referred to the Attorney General’s Office for accountability.

Meanwhile, Shah Hussain Murtazwi, deputy spokesman for the President, has clarified that the PPS gaurds were not present at the event. He clarified the PPS men are only present at locations where the President is present, the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was not present at the event.
