SHEBERGHAN (SW): Some internally displaced persons (IDPs) especially women who are recently displaced from Qosh Tapa and Darz Aab districts exhibited their handicrafts after 2-month training in Jawzjan province on Sunday.
According to these women, as a result of the exhibition, the women are earning 5 hundred to 15 hundred afghanis per day.
Jamila, one of the IDPs, said after learning the art she can provide for her family. According to her, the displaced women are not helpless, they can earn money for their families.
Gulalai, another IDP, urged other women who are making handicrafts to join the exhibition.
The officials of Ipso, a humanitarian organization in Jawzjan, said that the exhibition is aimed to empower internally displaced women.
Jan Mohammad Habibi, the cultural head of Ipso, told Salam Watandar that the organization provides equipment along with the training for the internally displaced women. “Currently there are women busy learning handicraft in the center and villages of the province”, added Habibi.
Najiba Qureshi, the provincial director of women's affairs, welcoming the event said the program aside from helping internally displaced women is also an effort to revive traditional handicraft of the province.
Those who had come to the exhibition said, despite the fact that cotton sales have seen a surge in the province, but handicrafts still lack the market.
