KABUL (SW): In the past month, about 20 violent events have been reported against journalists in all over the country.
Fahim Dashti, a member of the Joint Commission of Journalists and the Government, at a meeting in Kabul on Saturday, said that the cases included 2 reports of journalists detained in Khost, 4 direct threat cases in Helmand, 1 assassination attempt, and the rest of the threats were made via mobile phones and virtual networks.
He informed that 4 reporters in Helmand have been directly threatened by terrorists, but he did not provide details about other journalists who were threatened.
“Some of these cases have been resolved, some of them under examination, and some have been sent to the judicial authorities”, added Dashti.
He assured that 172 cases of violence against journalists which are pending from previous years are also under investigation.
A joint committee will be set up by the Ministries of Defense, the Interior and the National Directorate of Security for the purpose of preventing improper encounters of security forces with reporters while covering suicide and terrorist attacks, said officials at the Joint Commission on Journalists and the Government.
According to them, the committee will provide will organize a workshop in which the duties of reporters and security forces are clearly outlined.
