KABUL (SW): A number of political experts believe that U.S. President Donald Trump mentioning terrorist groups in his UN General Assembly speech on Tuesday has serious implications in the region and speeds up the process of combating these groups.
These experts consider Trump's remarks to the countries supporting terrorism as a warning and say that the United States is trying to win the war in Afghanistan.
Ferdaws Kawish, a political analyst, told Salam Watandar that the mentioning of Taliban along with Al-Qaeda and Hezbollah will expedite the fight against terrorism. According to him, the Trump administration is not looking to escalate tensions with Pakistan, therefore, he did not mention the country in his speech.
Eshaq Atmar, another expert, talking to Salam Watandar expressed that Trump’s speech at the UNGA indicates that America is committed to winning the war in Afghanistan and his speech mentioning terrorist groups is a warning to the countries that support terrorism.
He added that President Donald Trump, reminded the countries supporting terrorism to cooperate in the Afghan peace process and stop supporting the terrorist groups.
The UN General Assembly began on Tuesday with the presence of 193 leaders of member countries in New York. U.S. President Donald Trump, in his first UNGA speech, although did not mention Pakistan, but he mentioned several terrorist groups and assured America will take harsh action against them.
