KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Peoples’ National Consensus (APNC) party has urged the Hezb-e-Islami chief and chief executive of the Jamiat-e-Islami to end verbal feud between them that has caused concerns among the citizens.
Mohammad Ibrahem Alakozay, chief of the APNC, told a press conference here on Sunday that a delegation has met both Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, chief of the Hezb-e-Islami, and Atta Mohammad Noor, chief executive of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, in bid to convince them to defuse tension between them that has caused concerns.
He said the two politicians have been asked to refrain from flaring up the situation. Alakozay said the APNC delegations urged Hekmatyar and Noor to avoid making provocative remarks that might cause further tension. He went on to say efforts are underway to ensure a meeting between Hekmatyar and Noor for reconciliation. Alakozay also said the APNC is also trying to convince the Taliban in all parts of the country to shun violence, and join peace process.
Spokesmen for the Hezb-e-Islami and Jamiat-e-Islami have acknowledged the APNC efforts for mediation between Hekmatyar and Noor, and have expressed willingness for a face-to-face meeting provided it is for the national interests.
