KABUL (SW): Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in Kabul’s Qara Bagh district against the U.S. for dropping allegedly blasphemous leaflets last week.
The protesters, chanting slogans against the U.S., kept the highway linking Kabul with the northern provinces blocked for many hours. They warned of serious repercussions if such blasphemous acts reoccur.
Though, the U.S. Forces in Afghanistan apologized for this ‘mistake last week, but the protesters insisted it was a deliberate act, and an apology is not enough. The air-dropping of these leaflets deemed blasphemous also invited harsh reactions from the government, civil society and religious elders.
Mohammad Aasim Aasim, governor of Parwan province, after the apology of the U.S. forces, pronounced this acts as ‘unforgivable’, and announced to form fact-finding commission to probe the incident. It has been almost a week since these ‘blaspheomous’ leaflets were dropped, but the commission is yet to announce its findings.
