Ghani visits Kandahar to assess security situation

KANDAHAR CITY (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani visited Kandahar on Tuesday to assess the security situation.

Addressing a gathering here, the President said he came to meet victims of the latest incidents and assess the overall security situation in the southern parts of the country. “Kandahar is the political heart of Afghanistan when the heart is upset the whole body gets upset”, he said while urging upon the need for peace and stability.

The President assured the gathering about the government’s efforts against corruption and towards ensuring peace and stability. “We have initiated a serious campaign against corruption. We have visited districts and had talks with the locals. We have taken measures towards ensuring the independence of the judiciary. Contacts have been established with a number of organizations for job creation and attracting investment”, he said.

The locals urged the President to bring fundamental reforms in Kandahar’s education department, create jobs for the youth, better equip the security forces, develop more dams, and resolve the electricity crisis and increase women’s participation in the government.

The President vowed to take measures in this regard.
