KABUL (SW): In an anti-corruption drive the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) have signed the Anti-Corruption agreement with the Attorney General's Office (AGO) here in Kabul on Tuesday.
Mohammad Farid Hamidi, the Attorney General, said on the occasion, the agreement will strengthen the fight against corruption and pave the way to the reform agenda in the offices. He added that the goal of signing the agreement is to strengthen the reform and the process of fighting corruption in the security sector. According to the Attorney General, the signing of the agreement will provide further cooperation between the security entities.
President Mohammed Ashraf Ghani, at the occasion of the signing of the agreement in Arg (Presidential Palace), said unless corruption is fought in the security sector, there will be no stability in security.
Masoom Stanikzai, the director of the National Security Directorate, also called for a serious fight against corruption, but he suggested that there should be a difference between corrupt people and those who are accused of corruption for political reasons.
Tariq Shah Bahrami, the acting Minister of Defense, on the occasion pledged to seriously investigate corruption cases in the Ministry.
Janan Barakzai, the Deputy Minister of MoI, also talked about serious commitment to fight corruption, saying that it is the duty of the police to enforce the law.
An anti-corruption agreement has been signed between the Attorney General’s Office and the security agencies, as criticism of corruption in these institutions has been increasing for some time now.
