Vegetable market catches fire in Kabul

KABUL (SW): A fire engulfing vegetable market in Kabul on Tuesday hits more 10 million afghanis to the businessmen.

The vegetable market caught fire on Tuesday at noon in police district 4 of the capital. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electric short circuit.

Norulhaq Nazir, head of Kabul City Council, said that no one is injured by the fire, but more than 15 shops are burnt. “Although the amount of financial damages are not clear yet, initial information indicates damages to be more than 10 million afghanis” informed Nazir.

According to local residents and vendors, it is not the first time that a fire catches a market. They urged the government to identify fire vulnerabilities to prevent future incidents.

Eyewitnesses said that despite the fact that the fire department arrived at the scene of the incident late, they were able to put out the fire in 30 minutes.
