Afghanistan approves proposal for joint operations along Durand Line

KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said Afghanistan agrees with the proposal for joint border operations with Pakistan monitored by the U.S.

Ghani told a visiting delegation of the U.S. Senate led by Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee that Washington’s support is not taken for granted in Afghanistan. He noted all have agreed a regional solution is needed to bring an end to the conflict in Afghanistan. According to official statement, the U.S. delegation informed Afghanistan about Pakistan’s pledges to cooperate for peace in Afghanistan.

Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Unity Government (NUG) in Kabul, told the visitors that Pakistan should be pushed to stop supporting terrorist groups.

McCain also visited Pakistan during the former U.S. President Obama administration, and pushed Pakistan to take action against Haqqani Network. In his previous trip to Kabul, the U.S. Senator told media that for improved ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan it is pivotal for Islamabad to take actions against militants, particularly the Haqqani Network.
