KABUL (SW): Latest group photos of the first Vice President Abdul Rasheed Dostum, governor of Balkh province Atta Mohammad Noor, and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Mohaqeq in Turkey have raised speculations about a new political alliance in the making.
All three of them are part of the National Unity Government (NUG), but remain its stern critics. Dostum leads Junbish-e-Islami party, Noor is chief executive of the Jamiat-e-Islami party while Mohaqeq heads the Wahdat-e-Islami party. Analysts believe any alliance between the three of them would be short-lived as its only aim seems to give tough time to the NUG led by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
Arif Rehmani, a member of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house), told Salam Watandar that such alliances are not natural, but for a limited purpose. Intezar Khadem, an analyst on political affairs, said in this regard that such grouping divides the nation and lefts negative impacts. Liaqat Ali, an observer on security affairs, argued that such alliances are usually brokered by foreign forces that have their own agendas in the country.
