KABUL (SW): Chief of the Hezb-e-Islami party Gulbuden Hekmatyar has said parliamentary system of governance is not good for Afghanistan, and coalition governments have not proven durable in many parts of the world.
On his return to the capital after almost two decades, Hekmatyar was given a warm reception at the Arg (Presidential Palace). Hekmatyar vowed his full support for the government in Kabul in bringing peace and stability. The Chief of Hezb-e-Islami party said he has no desire to challenge, strive for change or share in the government. Hekmatyar offered to the Taliban that he can work as mediator between them and the government for a peaceful settlement of the dispute.
Hekmatyar urged upon the leaders of the National Unity Government (NUG) in Kabul to overcome their internal rift. He also criticized some media outlets for promoting hatred, division and conflicts.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani called upon countries of the region not to keep ties with terrorist groups, but legitimate government. He said ongoing conflict in Afghanistan is an imposed war. Ghani challenged the Taliban to show courage and desire for peace as Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
