KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Wednesday grilled the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) for being mum over the 209-Shaheen Corps carnage.
Up to 140 soldiers died in a Taliban attack on the Corps headquarters in Mazar-e-Sharif city on Friday. Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the WJ said the AIHRC’s silence over this bloodshed is saddening. Ibrahimi urged the AIHRC not to stay quite in the wake of such atrocities. “Every day Afghans are becoming victims of terrorism which is very worrisome, we should have a strong voice against it, they (AIHRC officials) should speak up against it as it is their responsibility as well”, he said in his remarks.
A number of political and social affairs’ analysts have also raised their concerns in this regard. Nasrullah Elm, an analyst, said the AIHRC has been politicized that is why it only raises its voices on selective issues.
We wished to have the views of the AIHRC on this, but their representatives declined to comment.
