KABUL (SW): An election watchdog claimed on Thursday the electoral bodies are not prepared to hold parliamentary and local council elections this year.
Representatives of the Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan (FEFA) told a presser that they have conducted study that proves this assertion. Mohammad Yosuf, chief executive of FEFA, said on the occasion that the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has been unable to mark constituencies and come-up with a clear program for elections.
The FEFA chief executive lamented that the IEC seems reluctant about the lack of trust people associate with this organization.
Meanwhile, the IEC has rejected the allegations. Waseema Badghesi, deputy director of the IEC, has said it has been only three months since the new leadership at the electoral body has taken charge. She said it was early to judge the IEC. She mentioned efforts are underway to secure budget for the IEC, bring reforms, and modernize it with the help of latest technology.
