BALKH CITY (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said he is not in favor of Atta Mohammad Noor’s bid to resign from his post as governor of Balkh province.

Ghani was speaking at a ceremony to mark the beginning of new academic year in Mazar-e-Sharif on Saturday. The President hailed Noor’s services for Balkh in terms of security and economic up-lift. Last week, Balkh’s incumbent governor announced he would soon step down from this post. Ghani said in his remarks the issue would be discussed with Noor in details.

He shared the concerns raised by Balkh’s governor regarding surging insecurity in the province. Ghani inaugurated a mosque and new building for the provincial council in the Mazar-e-Sharif city.

On his term, Atta Mohammad Noor said intelligence agencies of a number of countries are involved in fueling instability in the northern parts of Afghanistan. Noor stressed that anyone causing troubles in Balkh would be dealt with iron hands.
