MAIMANA (SW): Clashes between the supporters of the Jamiat-e-Islami party and the Junbish-e-Milli Islami party have claimed at least four lives.

Abdul Kareem Yourish, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, has confirmed the incident. He told Salam Watandar men associated with Jamiat’s local leader Ahmad Shah Malang, who is also director for the anti-terrorism department at the police headquarters, fought with men linked to Junbish’s leader Nizamudin Qaisari, who is district police chief for Qaisar district.

According to the initial investigations, some of the Junbish supporters were busy in aerial firing while partying in the ‘Damqol Desert’ area close to the residence of Jamiat’s leader Malang. It is said Malang’s men tried to stop Qaisari’s supporters from firing, but it resulted in armed clashes.

Yourish said security forces reached the spot to calm things down, but the clashes continued till late in the night.

Meanwhile, Qaisari has alleged his son has been killed by men associated with Malang. He has warned if the government failed to arrest the killers of his son, he would take ‘revenge’. Malang, on the other hand, claimed he was suddenly attacked by armed men as he was on his back to home, and three members of his family have been taken away by armed men.

According to the officials, this is not the first time state’s weapons have been used in a personal feud.
