TALOQAN (SW): The building of an old and ruined cinema in Takhar province will be re-constructed 16 years after its destruction.
The cinema complex is now home to local vendors. The roof of the cinema got seriously damaged in this year’s heavy snowfall.
Aziz Maqsoodi, director at the municipality of Takhar, has said 3 million afghanis have been raised as funds for the reconstruction of the cinema. “We have also arranged for modern cinema projectors to be imported from outside the country”, added Maqsoodi. With the help of the local civil society and cultural activists, the municipality aims to provide the local community a taste of regional and international films.
Waheed Baktash, a writer and poet in the province, pronounced this move by the municipality as encouraging and unprecedented. He said the reconstruction of the cinema will bring energy and hope for the cultural activities of the residents.
This cinema was first built 50 years ago.
