Pakistan extends Afghan refugees stay

KABUL (SW): The federal cabinet of Pakistan has granted extension to the stay of registered Afghan refugees in the country, permitting them to live in Pakistan till December 31, 2017.

Maryam Aurangzeb, Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan, has said refugees who do not have permits cannot travel to Pakistan without a valid visa. “The cabinet has ordered the Ministry of Interior to register undocumented Afghan refugees by December”, added Aurangzeb.

Omar Zakhilwal, Afghan ambassador to Pakistan, has expressed Afghan refugees have played significant role in Pakistan’s economy. Based on the information, the federal cabinet of Pakistan has requested special visa for students, businessmen and those seeking medical treatment.

Previously the government of Pakistan had given 31st March, 2017 as deadline to the Afghan refugees.
