LASHKARGAH (SW): A widow in Helmand province has been left to beg on the streets after losing her husband and three sons in clashes with the militants.
The widow named Bibi Ayesha is alone to take care of 12 children, three daughters-in-law and a disabled son. She told Salam Watandar the government did not come to her rescue when the ragging violence in Helmand’s Nauzad district claimed the lives of the breadwinners of her family.
She added the Taliban have developed an enmity with her family, but she has no other choice than begging on the streets.
When contacting, Mohammad Aman, interim director for the directorate of labor, social welfare, martyr and disable, told Salam Watandar that the aid delivery to the truly deserving families is a complicated process. He said only those families are given the due aid who prove their loved ones lost lives or sustained injuries while serving among the security forces. Aman noted there are some 7 thousand registered families of the martyrs and disabled persons in Helmand who are supported by the government.
Meanwhile, Aqanoor Qentoz, the police chief in Helmand, has stressed the deserving families of the security forces have always been taken care of. He acknowledged that there are as many as one hundred grieving families who lost their loved ones due to insurgency, but they have no documented proof to claim the aid and support from the government. The provincial police chief said he has tasked a commission to resolve hinderences in this regard.
