KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan National Standards Authority (ANSA) has declared most of gas heaters used by citizens across the country unsafe and even dangerous.
Talking to Salam Watandar, Naqibullah Fayeq, ANSA spokesman, said their findings indicate most of the gas heaters available in the market are of low-quality, and pose serious threat to the lives of people installing at homes. He noted it is not in their domain to regulate the sale of gas heaters, but their officials are playing their role to ensure citizens’ safety in this regard.
Faye stressed it is the responsibility of other ministries to ensure unsafe and faulty gas heaters are not imported into the country. Last week, death of 4 students in Kabul due to gas leakage from such a heater underlined the danger associated with these appliances.
When contacted, Musafaq Qoqandi, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MoCI) said they have not received any complaints so far. Qoqandi stressed immediate steps would be taken to counter the import, sale and use of unfit gas heaters if the Ministry comes across solid evidence in this regard.
