JALALABAD (SW): One of a kind rice processing and packaging plant has started functioning in eastern Nangarhar province.
The project is a private venture by local investor with some support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Malik Ghulam Nabi, owner of the plant, informed it has cost some $1.5 million in which the USAID has contributed 15 percent. “The plant can process 5 tons of rice in 1 hour”, added Nabi.
According to the owner, the plant has 50 employees, but has created employment for over 4 thousand people indirectly.
Local farmers and rice traders in the area have expressed optimism towards this new factory in Nangarhar’s Behsud district. They urged businessmen to invest more such production units in the country which would create jobs and lead the country to self-reliance.
