QALA-I-NAW (SW): The provincial public health authorities in Badghes province have said the Taliban militants have closed down at least 8 health centers in the province.
Abdul Latif Rostayi, acting director for the public health directorate, has informed five of these health centers were located in the Bala Murghab district, two in Aab Kamari district, and one more in the Qades district. The director added a non-government organization ‘MOVE’ had promised the Taliban insurgents to provide them with medicine and health services at these 8 heath centers. But, the Taliban closed them down when they did not receive medicine and health services there, he added.
The civil society activists in the province have raised concerns over the issue. They have urged the government to ensure reopening of these health centers.
Zahir Bahand, spokesman for the provincial governor, has rejecting the reports about closure of these health centers. He said only two health centers were closed in the province, but one of them has been opened now.
The Bala Murghab, Aab Kamari and Qades are among the most restive parts of the province where the Taliban militants are active.
