JALALABAD (SW): Pro-Daesh rebels have torched the houses of a number of residents in Nangarhar’s Kot district besides abducting many civilians.
Haji Amir Khan, a local elder told Salam Watandar the militants torched these houses in Se Pay, Bandok, Laghar Joay and Parsha Khel villages on Friday evening. He added up to 60 homes have been torched along with all the belongings. The local elder noted these villages were already empty as its inhabitants had left the area long ago due to the rising clout of the pro-Daesh militants.
Haji Amir Khan lamented enough security check posts were not established in Kot district by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) following a cleansing operation, and that is why the militants returned to torch the houses of civilians. He hinted some locals might have also been abducted by the rebels. The tribal elder underlined the need for intensive operation and establishment of more check posts to curb the return of militants from across the Durand Line.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, has confirmed the latest incident in Kot district. He told Salam Watandar the civilians’ homes have been torched in far away mountainous areas, and there were no civilians present there.
The pro-Daesh militants have not commented on this so far.
