KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) is set to approve the Annual National Budget 2017-18 in the coming week.
Kamal Safi, vice chairman for the house’s committee for budget and finance, told Salam Watandar all is set for the final approval of the Budget in the coming week. Safi said 90 percent work on modifying the draft Budget has been completed, and it is all set for its approval by the house. A previous draft was rejected by the house.
The vice chairman of the WJ’s committee for budget and finance said the government and the parliament are working together to address the issues raised by the lawmakers in this regard. He clarified that the overall amount of the Budget has not been changed, but some allocations for various projects that were seen less feasible have been diverted to others that are seen more feasible.
The Ministry of Finace has designed a Budget worth 466 billion afghanis for the coming year. Up to 287 billion afghanis have been earmarked for expenditures while 178 billion afghanis have been earmarked for the development projects.
