01/01/2017

KABUL (SW): Suleyman Soylu, Turkey’s interior minister has said that 39 people, including 16 foreigners, have died in an attack on Reina nightclub, a happening place in Istanbul while people were celebrating New Year.

According to state-owned Anadolu news agency, the interior minister said that the suspect was dressed as Santa Claus. At least 69 people are reported as injured.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed deep sadness over the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility. Turkey has been under several terrorist attacks for the past few months. The attack comes three weeks after twin bombings in Istanbul killed at least 45 people, most of whom were police officers. Last month, Russian ambassador was assassinated in Istanbul.
