KABUL (SW): Police have confirmed at least eight people dead following a long and deadly assault on the resident of a Wolesi Jirga (lower house) member in Kabul.
The resident of Mir Wali Barekzai, parliamentarian from Helmand province, was attacked by insurgents last evening and the firefight continued till Thursday morning. Among the dead are his two grandsons, a nephew, two guests, two guards and son of Obaidullah Barekzai, another member of the house from Uruzgan province.
Fraidoon Obaidy, head of criminal investigation at the Kabul police headquarters, has said that Mir Wali Barekzai and his wife are among the injured. The three attackers were killed after ten hours of fighting, he said. “Police rescued at least 18 people including Mir Wali Barekzai and his wife”, added Obaidy.
According to one of the eye-witnesses, one of the insurgents blew himself at the entrance gate of Mir Wali Barakzai’s resident while two other attackers made their way while opening fires at those who were in the house.
