LASHKARGAH (SW): Surging violence in Helmand has led to suspension of work on some 16 major developmental projects in various districts of the province that has left thousands of the workers jobless.
Mohammad Khan Nasrat, the head for commerce department at Helmand University, told Salam Watandar that insecurity has led to suspension of work on 9 projects related to health sector, 5 agricultural projects and 4 other developmental projects.
Meanwhile, a number of civil society activists in Helmand, noted that insecurity has also triggered many social disruptions in the province, and people in Helmand are faced with serious challenges on daily basis. They mentioned that following the surge of violence, a number of the families have been displaced and several schools have been shut in the province.
The civil society activists and the provincial council members believe that the Taliban militants have placed mines in the civilians’ homes as well.
The Taliban militant have strong presence in the restive province of Helmand and they maintain control over a number of districts in this province.
Meanwhile, the experts are of the opinion that the developmental projects in this province would witness more delays if the government does not assert control over the districts in the province.
