JALALABAD (SW): Fighting between the pro-Daesh rebels and the local anti-militant militia has forced many families from Pacheragaam district to flee their homes and take refuge in and around the Jalalabad city.
The war-weary civilians are in dire need of help. Salam Watandar correspondent met a number of these Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). On the outskirts of the provincial capital, hundreds of IDPs are residing in make-shift camp. “I went to beg for some food for the children but to no avail, we just kept crying”, a woman said.
Though, the Afghan National Security and Defense (ANSDF) are busy in clean-up operation in Pacheragaam but the civilians are too afraid to go back to their homes there. Ghulam Haidar Faqirzai, director for the department of refugees and repatriates in the province, told Salam Watandar that they have surveyed some 800 displaced families and efforts are underway to provide aid to them.
Meanwhile, Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, has said that fresh troops have been dispatched to curb the militants in Pacheragaam. He added that the ground forces would have air support as well in this operation.
