MAIMANA (SW): The Taliban militants have managed to overrun the Ghormach district in northern Faryab province, officials said on Tuesday.
Security officials in Faryab province stated that on early Tuesday morning, the Taliban captured the district office and the police headquarters in Ghormach district.
Janatgul Krokhil, commander of the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 209-Shahen Corps in Faryab told Salam Watandar that last night, hundreds of Taliban militants launched attacks on local government buildings and after hours of fighting the militants captured the district office and police headquarters at around 8 am on Tuesday.
The ANA commander stated that the Taliban militants have sustained heavy causalities. He added that the security forces have launched operation to reclaim the fallen. Krokhil assured that the forces would push the militants back soon.
