Taliban manage to enter Kunduz City

KUNDOZ CITY (SW): The Taliban fighters have managed to enter Kudnuz city breaking the security ring around it after hours of intense fighting.

Amaruddin Wali, member of the provincial council told Salam Watandar that the rebels are marching towards the governor’s office after capturing the main square and hoisting their flag over it. Ghulam Rabbani, another member of the provincial council said that if the no fresh contingent of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) arrived for the rescue, the provincial capital would completely fall to the Taliban.

In the wee hours on Monday, the Taliban launched a massive coordinated attack to overrun the strategic town of Kunduz city, which briefly fell to the Taliban exactly one year ago. Latest from the city suggest intense fighting is underway near the office of provincial administration.

Mahbobullah Akbari, the spokesperson for the Afghan National Police (ANP)’s 808-Spenzar Zone told journalists that the Taliban have attacked Sahdarak, Zakhil, Charkhab and Nasiri villages on the outskirts of the city.

These areas are close to the Kundoz-Baghlan highway. Taliban launched attacks from western parts of the city and are reportedly bidding to advance towards Gota Gird area.
