TARINKOT (SW): At least 20 members of the Afghan National Police (ANP) have reportedly been killed by the Taliban militants in southern Uruzgan province.
Locals have said that fighting is still underway between the militants and the security forces on the northern outskirts of the provincial capital Tarinkkot. A security source that wished not be named in the report has confirmed that up to 20 ANP men have died in the clashes and nine more are wounded.
Meanwhile, Dos Mohammad Nayab, spokesman for the provincial governor has claimed that aerial raids on the hideouts of the Taliban have inflicted heavy losses upon the militants.
Few weeks ago, group of militants wished to overrun Tarinkot city but were pushed back in a counter-offensive led by Gen. Abdul Razique, the security chief of southern Kandahar province.
