Taliban manage to enter Khan Abad in Kunduz

KUNDUZ CITY (SW): The Taliban militants have managed to break into the Khan Abad district in northern Kunduz province on Saturday.

It came after the groups of the armed rebels waged coordinated attacks on the Khan Abad and Ali Abad districts early in the morning. Hayatullah Amiri, governor of Khan Abad has confirmed that the rebels have entered into the district. He noted that intense fighting is underway, the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) are in dire need of supporting troops.

The governor said that due to the fighting, the highway connecting Ali Abad to the provincial capital Kunduz City has been blocked. This highway is the second road link for residents in Takhar and Badakhashan provinces with Kunduz.

The local authorities have so far not commented on the casualties in the latest clashes. According to Hayatullah Faqiri, chief of Ali Abad district, intense fighting is underway in this part of the province as well.

The Taliban on their part claimed to have completely overrun Khan Abad besides confiscating huge cache of arms and ammunition.
