PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Local officials in eastern province Logar have said that hundreds of Taliban militants attacked security check posts at mid-night night in the Baraki Barak district but their attacks were repelled by the security forces.
Mohammad Rahim Amin, district chief in Baraki Barak district, told Salam Watandar that the militants’ offensives were rebuffed by the security forces, and a mop- up operation is underway to clear them off the district.
He said that 11 Taliban insurgents have been killed and 3 police personnel have been injured during the clashes. Taliban had gathered from Kharwar, Baraki Barak and Sayed Abad districts in a bid to capture security checkpoints in Baraki Barak district, he said.
Salim Salih, spokesman for the governor in the province, said that reinforcement troops have been dispatched to the area and the operation is underway.
Meanwhile, Zabiullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman claimed that the Taliban have captured Chaltan and Manji areas in the district, and have inflicted casualties upon security forces. Local officials discarded the claims made by the militants’ spokesman.
